Establishing Congruency Between Home and School

(School staff development curriculum)

Biblical Parenting Principles for the Classroom is a professional development kit for school teachers and staff for establishing congruency between home and school in the training of children. This newly created Australian program is aimed at school staff development, to compliment what the parents of their students are learning and implementing from the Growing Families core parenting programs.

The Biblical Parenting Principles for the Classroom course was originally prepared by Joan Grosser and Gary Lindburg in 2001. It was derived from Along the Virtuous Way (GKGW) material being used in Biblical parenting programs across Australia. We pay tribute to the commitment and diligence they showed in that great work.

Since then, the material has been presented in a number of school situations. It was originally designed as a ‘four day’ course with sessions occupying whole mornings and being spread over a whole school year eg. one per term. Recognising the limitations which this placed on a number of schools, it was decided to condense the original course so it could be presented in a shorter time period. This presentation has been designed to be completed in two morning sessions beginning at approximately 8.30 am and finishing at about 1 pm on each of two consecutive days. This is the ideal and is strongly recommended.

Alternatively, it would be possible to complete the course in one (long) full day, probably concluding early evening. This is considered a ‘poor cousin’ presentation format, since it would deprive staff of the vital time of review and reading on the evening of the first day, at the end of Sessions One and Two. We strongly recommend that, whenever possible, the course is presented over two consecutive mornings.

An additional aspect of this new development is the preparation of a follow-up course. This recognises the importance of reinforcing material after a time of implementation, but it is also seen as a chance for staff to evaluate the material and for GFA to have the feed-back so vital to improving the course for future presentations. We believe passionately that this material has the potential to edify teachers and children and the capacity to radically affect children so that they might grow up to be Godly and morally responsible young men and women. This is our goal.

Learn how you and your church might use this series to reach your neighbours, schools, and communities through the medium of parenting. This very practical vehicle will help you take the biblical worldview into the public sector-including public schools. The program is taught in a language that the average parent can understand.
